The Tesla Model 3 features a striking full-glass panoramic roof that spans nearly the entire length of the cabin, along with large front and rear windshields and frameless side door windows. The panoramic roof glass, while laminated, allows a substantial percentage of solar energy to pass through — raising cabin temperatures dramatically in San Diego's sunny climate. Factory glass on the Model 3 does include a basic UV coating, but it provides limited protection against infrared heat. We recommend ceramic film for the Model 3, primarily because of the battery range benefit. The Model 3's relatively compact battery pack is more sensitive to climate control load than larger Tesla models. In summer, a well-tinted Model 3 can reclaim 8 to 12% of range that would otherwise be consumed by the HVAC system managing a solar-heated cabin. Ceramic film's superior infrared rejection (up to 96% depending on grade) makes a larger difference than carbon film's 40% infrared rejection. A complete Model 3 window tint takes approximately 3 to 4 hours at our Carmel Valley shop. After installation, we recommend waiting 3 to 5 days before rolling the windows down to allow the adhesive to fully cure.
